SA Racing Legend achieves victory in first heat of Pre-66 Legends

69 Year Old South African racing Legend, Sarel Van Der Merwe showed that he still has what it takes by piloting his red number 177 Ford Galaxy to victory in the first heat of the “Pre-66 Legends of the 9-hour” class at the International Passion for Speed event at Killarney Race Way on 6 February. Sarel was forced to retire due to mechanical failure while leading the second heat. Sarel won the South African Rally Championship title 11 times between 1975 to 1988 and has enjoyed a successful circuit career with the highlight being leading a South African team to victory in the 1984 Daytona 24 hour race and a 3rd at Le Mans 24 Hour later that year in his first attempt.
